Top 10 Movies Of 2017: From “Leatherface” To “It”

Horror, science fiction, and fantasy rounds out this list of top 10 films of 2017.

When the end of a year draws close, we tend to sit back and think about all the events that have happened. We reflect on everything, and one of those reflections are movies. The movies I have chosen, I have seen. I found all the movies listed interesting. Now, I know everyone has a different list, but here are my top 10 movies of 2017.

10. Leatherface

Ever wondered how Leatherface came to be? In this story, we get an insight into the younger years of our favorite chainsaw-wielding psychopath.

The story is set in Texas before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Members of the Sawyer’s family are caught in the act of murder by the police. The youngest boy is sent off to the mental hospital. Years later, the patients at the hospital riot. The Sawyer boy and a few others escape. The adventure molds the Sawyer boy who begins to embrace the Sawyer family lifestyle.

9. Bright

Bright is Netflix’s big production movie. The movie is not a bad movie, and not everyone loved it.  The film draws on the elements of mythical creatures and modern-day humans, combining them together to create a whole new world.

The movie is about a human police officer who is five years away from retirement. He is forced to team up with a rookie cop who is an Orc.  They must put their differences aside to stop a group of rogue Elves from using a magic wand to resurrect the Dark Lord.

8. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Peter Quill finds out about his past in this sequel to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Along the way, the team meets new friends, fight new foes, and a discovery that changes Peter’s life forever.  The things that adults keep from children, sometimes is a good thing.  Plus, who can miss Groot shaking is groove thing.

7. Get Out

Just when you think you know someone, they try to sell you off to the highest bidder.  Chris, unknowingly, gets hypnotized by his girlfriend’s mother. Soon after, a gathering of wealthy people arrives. They are all sizing up Chis, getting to know him. With the help of his TSA friend Rod. They both uncover the truth of the Armitages’ family.

6. Logan

Logan has aged, and it shows. His adamantium frame is killing him. His best friend, the father figure in his life, Professor Xavier, has grown old, and sick. Logan, with the help from Caliban, must take care of him and keep him safe. That all ends, when a nurse arrives with a child. Now, Logan, Caliban, and Charles must protect the next generation of mutants.  If you have not watched this movie, have tissues ready, you’ll need them.

5. Wonder Woman

I grew up watching Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. I was on the fence about this movie until I saw it.  The action of the film was fantastic, great visual effects, and no sex scenes to move the story forward. The film ends up being an inspiration for all women of all ages.

Diana decides, to save her home, she must leave it and join the fight in World War 1. She learns about love, evil, good, sacrifice and betrayal.  She’s forced to decide if humans are worth saving.

4. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Rey learns the way of the force from reluctant Luke Skywalker. His sister, Leia is doing what needs to be done to fight the First Order. Kylo Ren tries to bring Rey to the dark side. Chewbacca makes some new friends, who cannot leave him alone.  The fan-base is divided for this movie, some hate it, some love it, and others are torn between the two.

3. Annabelle: Creation

How is Annabelle created? Whose soul lives in this evil doll? Now, we learn that a little girl died. She’s the daughter of the local doll-maker and his wife. 12 years later, the couple welcomes a nun and several orphaned children to stay with them. One child becomes drawn to a room, a room she been told never to enter. The door mysteriously unlocks, she enters the room and finds a doll. Now, mysterious things start to happen, and the truth of the doll is revealed.

2. Thor: Ragnarok

In this non-stop laughter, Thor is a prisoner and becomes a gladiator. He must calm the Hulk, who’s been angry for quite some time, and team up with a Valkyrie and the untrustworthy Loki. They must get off the gladiator planet and return to Asgard to save it from his sister, Hela.

1. It

Welcome to the town of Derry, Main. A beautiful community where children love to play by the river’s edge. Derry, where, every 27 years kids go missing. Now, the Losers Club are the only ones who have the guts to try and stop the killer clown from hell.

When we hear the word, “remake” we freak out. We feel the latest version would ruin our memories of the original version. I can say, this did not happen here.  Both, the 1990 and 2017, versions of It are top notch. At least we don’t have to wait for another 27 years for the second part of the movie. The next chapter hits theaters  September 2019.

The Last Jedi Opinions – A Fanbase Divided

The Last Jedi is a good movie, but not everything is perfect.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a good movie. It has some decent action and laughter. I was able to stay in my seat the whole time. But, not everything is perfect.

The movie is too comical, too much of a joke. I am not saying the other films were not humorous. They had their moments. But the comedy was earned in the previous films. The banters between Han Solo and Chewy were great and funny. Han Solo’s character is meant to be sarcastically funny, and Harrison Ford pulled it off successfully.

The rest of the Star Wars films were more on the serious side, The Last Jedi film had its serious moments, but they were overshadowed by the misplaced use of comedy. The movie needed more action, more fight scenes, and less comedy and cuteness factor (Porgs)…[Read More]
